When it comes to men’s natural bodybuilding we gauge the conditioning standard by whether an athlete has shredded glutes or not.
I hear it all the time with my bodybuilders as well with many on social media platforms that they want shredded glutes and I’ll admit, so do I. Nowadays, it is quite difficult to place well in shows if your glutes are looking more like double cheeseburgers as opposed to a cheese grater, so it’s understandable why so many are fixated on them. BUT (no pun intended), having shredded glutes is not always a guarantee you’re going to win top honors. Even if you happen to win because of your shredded glutes, I’ve still seen winning physiques that lack symmetry, have lagging body parts and look excessively flat (the latter is often due to an over assertive approach).
So, yes maybe you’re shredded, but that doesn’t always mean you brought your best physique. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying to neglect your conditioning or to not make shredded glutes a goal, but they are just one piece of the puzzle and fixating on them can certainly get you into some hot water as I discuss in the video below. This blog/vlog is simply intended as a reminder to you that you should not forget or neglect the other pieces of the puzzle such as symmetry, muscle size, posing and of course the overall conditioning. It’s hard to bring a complete package when you’re obsessed about a single muscle group. Complete puzzles tend to get top honors from a panel of judges, but more importantly than top honors, it means you’re closer to your full potential. At least for me, that is truly winning.
