I recently completed a big-time coaching and career PR as I spent three weeks in Europe. First, I had the honor of being a part of the coaching team in the corner of my long-time client, friend, and colleague, Bryce Lewis at the IPF Classic World Championships. Working alongside the coaching legends Matt Gary and Sioux-z Hartwig-Gary was amazing. The fact that Bryce pulled off a silver medal second place finish was icing on the cake!
The following weekend, I presented at the European Powerlifting Conference held in Limerick Ireland, hosted by Danny Lennon and Gar Benn of Sigma Nutrition and CityGym Limerick. By far the weakest man on the stage, I presented alongside legends Mike Tuchscherer, Stephen “Screamer” Manuel, LS McClain, Greg Nuckols, and of course, Bryce Lewis.
To top it all off, the following weekend Luke Johnson, founder of The SBS Academy hosted Dr. Mike Zourdos and I in London for a two-day conference on all things strength and physique. For those who don’t know, Dr. Zourdos is a good friend of mine and close colleague, but he’s also at the forefront of periodization and autoregulation research for powerlifting. We work together, but he is also an academic mentor to me who was a part of my PhD supervisory team. Thus, getting to present alongside him was a huge honor.
Anyway, to get to the point, on our practical day in London we did a lot of “in-gym” coaching for both physique and strength development, and getting away from my typical theoretical articles, I wanted to share this video from the SBS Academy YouTube channel (make sure to subscribe to their awesome content) where I went through instruction on how to get a better contraction quality out of your lats during a DB row, enjoy!
